New victory in the battle undertaken by Elda Renna, the bus driver who was included in the Simet layoffs and that she was rehired after suing the company. The reinstatement sentence had been challenged by Busitalia Birs, the company of the state railways group to which a business branch was rented. Well, at the end of the precautionary phase, the panel of judges rejected Busitalia Birs’ request. The judge had ordered Birs “to continue the employment relationship originally in existence between Elda Renna and Simet spa with immediate effect” and the driver, defended by the lawyer Susanna Cecere, can continue to board his bus, a job which he defended through gritted teeth after the collective dismissal. But the battle has not yet concluded definitively, as Renna herself underlines. The rental contract for the business unit has been extended until 31 December 2024, but we are already wondering what will happen in the future. The driver together with her lawyer are following the matter step by step, so that the definitive transfer from Simet Spa to the BusItalia Birs Ferrovie dello Stato group can be achieved, because only this will effectively save all the workers from dismissal. So much so that the entire group of workers first fired and then reinstated by the court is facilitating this transition, waiving the payment, in a single solution, of the compensation for damages awarded by the judges. A sacrifice that workers are facing to save everyone’s jobs. «This story – commented Elda Renna after this further sentence in her favor – we hope that it ends with a happy ending for the workers, for the battles and for the many results obtained, which this woman is leading for everyone, supported by the stubbornness and by the perseverance of the lawyer Cecere, two women who never gave up, firmly believing in justice, without receiving any type of support, especially from the Calabria Region, which shrugged its shoulders in the face of the crisis of the trucking company. She continues to fight without ever taking a step back.”
