PESCARA. They are “personalities of specific importance for the community”: former mayors of a black and white Pescara that no longer exists, principals who have dedicated a life to the school, artists capable of leaving a mark with their works. «Citizens who have contributed to honoring the city», attests to a resolution of the Masci council approved the day before the elections to dedicate 14 parks and green areas to as many illustrious Pescara citizens «distinguished for personal actions, in the civil, professional or artistic field». With this gesture, the council wants to “connote public areas of social and cultural value”.
The list of 14 special Pescara residents includes two former mayors: Vincenzo Mariani of the DC, mayor from 1962 to 1965, e Giuseppe D’Incecco, also from the DC, mayor between 1971 and 1973 but also founder and first principal of the De Cecco hotel institute. The Florida park will be dedicated to Mariani while the Gioia park in via Arapietra will be dedicated to D’Incecco.
And then there are the principals of the Pescara schools, points of reference for generations of students: «They have dedicated their lives to the school and to young children, realizing», says the resolution, «the highest values ​​of inclusion and citizenship and have carried out the their role with great enthusiasm and professionalism, leaving a sign of great balance in their respective school communities by managing to progressively organize the school in coherence with historical time and also managing to be the true engine for the human and social growth of the reference neighborhoods”. TO Francesco Desiderio, principal of the classic d’Annunzio, the garden of Piazza Santa Caterina will be dedicated; to Claudio Palma, also principal of the d’Annunzio, the garden in Viale Kennedy; to Michele Petrarca, principal of the scientific da Vinci, the Peter Pan park in via Monte Faito; to Walfrido Del Villano, another principal of the da Vinci, the Parco del Sole in Strada Ciattoni; to sister Matilde Celi, director of the Maestre Pie Filippini institute, the Fantasia park in via Monte Acquaviva; to Marcella Cicerale, principal of the Foscolo middle school, the mothers’ park in via Tirino; to Fulvio Luciani, also principal of the Foscolo middle school, the reception park in via Po; to Michelina Mariotti, principal of ITC Acerbo, the Scout park in via Monte Bove. The San Donato linear park, in via Rio Sparto, will be dedicated to Nino Santillifor decades director of the Abruzzo regional school office.
To the captain Gianfranco D’Antonio, pilot and instructor of the Italian Air Force, the garden in Piazza San Camillo de Lellis will be dedicated: in 1968, at the age of 26, D’Antonio attempted to land a damaged plane in order to avoid impact with the houses near Istrana airport (Treviso). He avoided a massacre but lost his life: for this heroic act he was decorated with the Silver Medal for aeronautical valor.
To the sculptor Ferdinando Gammelli, one of the first teachers of the Misticoni artistic high school and animator of the “Scuola di San Silvestro”, the Fior della vita park in via di Sotto.
