The suspect had gone to the victim’s house to get the money
The Carabinieri of Rizziconi have reported in a state of freedom a woman resident in Campania who last January was the protagonist of a scam against an elderly woman.
On that occasion, the military intervened after a phone call from the daughter of a 70-year-old.
The woman said she had been defrauded by a self-styled policeman and a self-styled lawyer.
The scammer allegedly told the victim that his daughter, in a car accident caused by her, had caused serious injuries to a woman who was in very serious conditions.
The “lawyer” suggested that the old woman remedy the incident by paying a fine of 3,380 euros, specifying that the payment could be made in cash or even through the delivery of gold jewellery.
The woman, confused by the phone call, shortly after received a second one from a man who described himself as “the marshal of Gioia Tauro”.
The self-styled policeman had confirmed to the old woman the need to hand over the sum of money. Convinced after the call from the “marshal”, the victim, kept on the phone, then handed over her assets for a total of over half a kilo of gold to a woman posing as a “debt collection officer”. The woman then left in the car.
At the end of the investigations, also conducted with telephone interceptions, the Rizziconi police managed to trace the alleged perpetrator and reported her.
