PESCARA. «I am a lawyer with 22 years of experience, an expert in administrative law; I held a leading role in Ambiente spa, a public company with 350 employees serving thirty municipalities; I am committed to women; and I am also the most voted in Forza Italia.” Valeria Toppettifrom the top of his 822 preferences, more than four outgoing councilors only on the Forza Italia list, does not hide his ambition to become a protagonist in the Masci council: «Given my undisputed skills and the great result achieved, it will everything should go as it should,” says Toppetti, “I have full faith in Forza Italia and in the mayor Carlo Masci: I am calm and serene.” And she adds: “And then I’m the mother of 4 children, the oldest is 17 and the youngest is 11, and it’s another proof of my strength.”
In the Masci council, according to the rules of female quotas, there is a need for 4 women and Toppetti wants to be one of these. With her 822 votes, in the Forza Italia rankings, she precedes the outgoing councilor Maria Rita Carrot who took 814; they are further back Patrizia Martelli (693) e Isabella Del Trecco (567). But in negotiations for the council it’s not just numbers that count.
«These are happy days because I receive many certificates of esteem», says Toppetti, «my result is the fruit of a great commitment, not only in the last few weeks but over the years. During the election campaign I spoke about the issues dearest to me such as sustainability, the role of women, youth policies and I would like to get involved in these sectors. And then”, underlines the Forzista, “I’m really pleased with the fact that it has received consensus in all the neighbourhoods, a sign that the city has accepted my proposals”. On record preferences, Toppetti underlines: «I didn’t match with any man, I did everything alone. Being the first of women, for me, is even more important because I have always dedicated myself to the value of women in institutions.”
Masci and the parties send each other signals to close the agreements and appoint the councilors. Toppetti waits: «I have the necessary strength to play an important role», he says, «unfortunately and fortunately, in politics consensus also counts and, beyond value», he concludes, «I have demonstrated that I also have this».
