LAMEZIA TERME (CZ) – “How much we have witnessed yesterday in town with the toxic cloud that rose high from Scordovillo and infested the whole city, it represents yet another shame and the last humiliation for the citizens”. To say it in a note is Paolo Di Matteo, regional Exit coordinator. “Once again Lamezia Terme was held hostage by a handful of criminals who continue to poison the people undisturbed, also taking advantage of the weakness of local institutions, always caught by surprise by such criminal events and totally incapable of opposing a firm reaction. Years and years of wrong policies towards the Roma population have led to all this.
We at Exit – continues the note – we certainly don’t want to criminalize the entire Roma community who lives in that area, but certainly all in a condition of acquiescence with respect to what occurs in the camp. On the other hand, we have the quiescence of all politicians who helplessly continue to witness these delinquent acts, only continuing to address the Roma problem as if it were only limited to the degradation of Scordovillo and not to an infection that has penetrated our country for years now. social fabric and has done nothing but exasperate feelings among citizens.
Scordovillo has been an open-air powder keg for years now, as well as the other two ghettos that have been created over the years in the city, respectively Ciampa di Cavallo and San Pietro Lametino. The integration policies have failed miserably and what the policy promises for the near future for the Roma community will not be of benefit or resolution either for themselves or for the city. The Roma problem must be seen from a historical-social and ethnic perspective, especially respecting this last aspect in its intrinsic differences. In the meantime, we are waiting for the criminals who yesterday intoxicated a city with that black cloud to be caught and pay for what they did.”
