Mario Cresci presents “Artist’s Residency” – Ragusa Foto Festival

Friday 21 June from 7pm the photographer Mario Crescione of the most significant authors in the Italian panorama of contemporary photography, will be a Ragusa at the Susanna Occhipinti Gallery (Via Napoleone Colajanni 9).

The occasion, open to the public, is special because we will talk about Artist Residency project – ongoing in Ragusa from Tuesday 18th to Monday 24th June – promoted by the “Cesare e Doris Zipelli” Foundation and curated by the Ragusa Foto Festival as part of the twelfth edition scheduled from 30th August to 30th September. In addition to Mario Cresci, Carmelo Arezzo, President of the Zipelli Foundation, Stefania Paxhia and Massimo Siragusa, respectively founder and artistic director of the Ragusa Foto Festival, the first Sicilian international photography event, will be present at the initiative.

During the Residency, Mario Cresci will create an artistic project that will be the fruit of his own interaction with the territory and with the prints and maps collected in the prestigious Zipelli Collection as well as with the biography of the engineer Zipelli. The Collection of Maps of Sicily represents it in its depictions between the sixteenth and nineteenth centuries as evidence of the geopolitical interpretation of the island, both as an expression of the attention of foreign travelers over the various centuries, and for the works of the cartographers and illustrators of the Europe of the time, confirming the uniqueness of Sicily for the historical, cultural, social and economic events that have involved it over the centuries.

The project will have the aim of enriching, with the unique interpretation of Mario Cresci, the precious collection created by the engineer Cesare Zipelli, an economist and intellectual of great human qualities who has done so much for the city of Ragusa and will become part of the exhibition schedule of the 2024 edition of the Ragusa Foto Festival, this year dedicated to the theme “Taking a Break”.
