Rho, 21 June 2024 – The 42-year-old driver of the cement mixer that hit the 72-year-old cyclist from Rhodes on Wednesday has been investigated, Claudio Zappa. The prosecutor on duty at the Milan court, Rosario Ferracane, has opened a case for road homicide. The driver of the vehicle was registered in the register of suspects by the Prosecutor’s Office in order to carry out all the necessary checksincluding alcohol and drug tests.
According to initial investigations, the collision occurred when the traffic light turned green in front of which both the man on the bicycle and the cement mixer were stopped, probably next to each other. A dynamic that recalls the dramatic accident occurred in Milan in Corso di Porta Romana in which Francesca Quaglia, 28 years old herself, lost her life hit by a truck while she was riding her bike at a traffic light.
Claudio Zappa, a 72 year old pensioner, was a resident of the city and apparently he was returning home. The accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon while the man was walking along Corso Europa. At the intersection with via del Majno, was hit by the heavy vehicle. The driver of the concrete mixer was a 42-year-old who was taken to hospital in a severe state of shock. When the rescuers sent by Milan 118 arrived with an ambulance and a medical vehicle, the elderly man was already dead. The health workers confirmed his death and provided initial treatment to the driver of the heavy vehicle, who had fallen ill.
The streets of Milan and its province remain at high risk, particularly for pedestrians and cyclists. Tuesday evening, around 7pm, a 68 year old woman was hit while he was riding his bicycle along via Sant’Ambrogio in Paderno Dugnano. The cyclist would have been hit by a white Fiat Panda. The dynamics of the accident are still being reconstructed. From a first hypothesis it seems that the 68 year old was hit with the car mirror which is located on the right side, the passenger side. A disastrous fall and a violent impact, so much so that a code red ambulance arrived on site and transported her to the Niguarda hospital in Milan in serious conditions. Even last night her condition remained very serious.
