Veneto has recently launched the traveller’s passport initiative, with which it intends to reward those who complete the visit of all its 34 walled cities. Here’s how this interesting Venetian idea works and how to get the much-coveted passport.

Traveler’s passport

For travellers, the passport is the symbol of travel itself, and collecting stamps from as many countries as possible is the dream of anyone who loves to travel. Unfortunately, however, when the passport expires it must be returned, and with it say goodbye to all the stamps collected up to that moment. They started right from the good feeling you get when you have a passport with all the pages full the members of the association of walled cities of Veneto to create their very personal traveler’s passport.

The walled cities of Veneto are 34 hidden pearls of the region, which we want to focus on for a new tourism launch. For some time now these villages have been attracting both Italian and foreign tourists, and to encourage travelers to discover them all, the association Città Murate del Veneto has decided to create a special passport, and to give a prize to those who visit all 34 of them. The association is based in Montagnana, and since 1997 it has brought the cities together in a common interest.

The mechanism of this initiative is as simple as it is ingenious, and follows classic passports in every way: for every city you visit you receive a stamp, proving that you passed through there. The passport kit is available in the tourist offices of all 34 municipalitiesand once you have accepted the challenge and collected all the stamps you will not only receive a prize, but you will have the satisfaction of having added a truly special, all-Italian gem to your travel baggage.

In fact, these 34 cities are joined together by the Venetian city walls, and among them there are the municipalities of Este, Montagnana, Monselice, Castelfranco Veneto, Cittadella and Asolo, just to mention a few. In these cities, in addition to admiring the architecture, the alleys and the suggestive and picturesque views, you can participate in the famous chess game in Marostica or the famous Palio of the ten municipalities in Montagnana. In short, you can’t get bored around here!
