VITERBO – “Nature Based Solutions” (NBS). Management and sustainable use of nature in cities to address socio-environmental challenges”. This is the title of the third free webinar organized for next June 25th, from 3pm to 5pm, by Punto Impresa Digitale of the Rieti Viterbo Chamber of Commerce together with the Central Italy Special Agency and in collaboration with the ODAF of Rieti and Viterbo.
The speaker of this new appointment will be Dr. Andrea Vignoli, coordinator of the URWAN – Interreg Euro MED project.
The areas we live in are highly vulnerable to the effects of climate change, experiencing increasingly extreme events. At the same time, decision makers are called upon to plan investments to green cities without a long-term strategy on resource availability, impact and related opportunities, while the transition towards a greener environment requires an integrated vision, knowledge harmonization and accountability of all interested parties.
A vision that finds answers in Nature based Solutions, i.e. a series of actions inspired, supported or literally copied from nature. This is a relatively recent concept used by the European Commission to identify nature-based strategies, actions and interventions that provide environmental services and socio-economic benefits capable, when carried out in an urban context, of increasing the resilience of cities. In particular, the Commission promotes the adoption of Nature based Solutions to implement the EU political priorities related to the European Green Deal, the 2030 Biodiversity Strategy and the Climate Change Adaptation Strategy. NbS also contributes to the inclusive beauty of our communities, according to the principles of the New European Bauhaus. The International Union for Conservation of Nature defines these solutions as “actions to protect, sustainably manage and restore natural or modified ecosystems that address societal challenges effectively and adaptively, while simultaneously providing benefits for human well-being and biodiversity.” .
