‘Umbria Film Festival’ celebrates 30 years of ‘Il corvo’: in Montone also a pop Saturday with Labadessa

The Umbria Film Festival reveals its first cards and offers a taste of what its twenty-eighth edition – the first with the Artistic Direction of Alessandro De Simone – is about to reserve for us, in the setting of the beautiful medieval village of Montone (PG), from 10 to 14 July 2024.

The Festival, which remains faithful to its independent, cinephile soul and aimed at making known products of the highest level often closed to the wider public, will this year celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Raven by Alex Proyas, the cult and “cursed” film, on whose set the protagonist Brandon Lee, Bruce’s son, tragically lost his life, having now become part not only of the history of cinema, but of the collective imagination and pop culture.

In this key, Montone will also wink at the comics universe with another highly anticipated event: the presentation of Damn Poet by Mattia Labadessa, which marks the return to print of the beloved Neapolitan artist, cartoonist, illustrator, singer-songwriter and social media star after four years. With his new graphic novel Labadessa entrusts his now famous bird man with the themes dearest to his poetics: from the difficulty in managing personal relationships to the sense of inadequacy, from poetry and art as supports to be able to find a place in the world to the tragicomic beauty of the ordinary. “Saturday Pop” will see the collaboration of UmbriaCon, a comic convention which saw its first edition staged last January with great public success.

Also this year the President of Umbria Film Festival will be Terry Gilliam, honorary citizen of Montone since 2010. The Umbria Film Festival is promoted and organized with the support of the Municipality of Montone, Umbria Region Department of Tourism and Culture, Legislative Assembly of the Umbria Region, Gal Alta Umbria, MiC, Ministry of Culture – General Directorate of cinema and audiovisual.
