Risk of landslides in the friars’ quarter – L’Aquila

AVEZZANO. In Avezzano there are 1,500 people held hostage by a hydrogeological instability. A problem that affects the popular “friars’ quarter” and which creates daily inconvenience for residents. Precisely for this reason, yesterday morning an initial discussion aimed at addressing and resolving this problem took place in the offices of the Southern Apennines District Basin Authority, which are located in the Region’s building in the former Arssa. The meeting, promoted by the regional councilor Massimo Verrecchiabrought together several key personalities, including the mayor of Avezzano, Gianni Di Pangraziothe technicians of the Municipality of Avezzano Roberto Laurenzi And Antonio Ferrettias well as Lillino Ferreri, former municipal administrator, together with a delegation from the Committee for the hydrogeological constraint. The main objective of the meeting was to discuss possible changes to the perimeter of the areas at risk, according to the provisions of the current excerpt plan for the hydrogeological structure, with particular attention to the risk of landslides. A geologist and a technician representing the Basin Authority also participated. Verrecchia defined the meeting as “very fruitful” and thanked Mayor Di Pangrazio for the availability and attention shown towards this critical issue. «This meeting», underlined Verrecchia, exponent of Fratelli d’Italia and group leader in the Region, «will be able to put an end to a long-standing problem that afflicts more than 1,500 people living in the area below the highway at the height of Monte Salviano». The regional councilor wanted to express his thanks to Vera Corbelli and to the Authority’s technicians, who had already shown significant availability in previous meetings to find a technical solution to the problem. «Their collaboration», concluded Verrecchia, «has been and will be fundamental to guarantee the safety and well-being of the citizens involved». This meeting represents an important step towards solving a problem that has long worried the local community, promising a safer future for all the inhabitants of the area. (eb)
