CYCLING In the atrium of the Region’s skyscraper, in Piazza Piemonte 1 in Turin, the Grand départ trophy of the Tour de France is displayed. Anyone who wants to see it up close and take a photograph can do so today (Thursday 13 June) until 7pm, on 14 June and from 17 to 27 June from 10am to 7pm. No registration is necessary. Each visitor will be given a Tour de France gift.
The president of the Piedmont Region Alberto Cirio and the mayor of Turin Stefano Lo Russo inaugurated the exhibition this morning.
«It is a historic moment: historic that the Tour starts from Italy, historic that it combines Florence, Bologna and Turin, and it is historic that Piacenza-Turin is the longest stage, testimony to how we have worked to obtain the maximum return in promotional terms for our land – highlighted President Cirio – We will seize the opportunity provided by the Tour, which is the most followed event in the world after the Olympics and the football World Cup, continuing a promotional campaign that began at the time of the official presentation in Paris with the tribute to journalists of Piedmontese products. If tourism works well, constitutes 10% of the gross domestic product and continues to grow year after year, it is because we organize events that advertise Piedmont.”
“The arrival of the third stage of the Tour from Piacenza will be a great opportunity for visibility for Turin and Piedmont, a fantastic sports celebration that will involve the whole city – declared the mayor Lo Russo – This year then the link between Turin and the world of cycling is particularly close: after hosting the start of the Giro d’Italia on May 4th, we are preparing to welcome the Tour on July 1st, one of the largest sporting events in the world. All this is the result of a great deal of organizational and planning work, in concert with the Region, which is bringing important results in attracting major international sporting events to the area. A virtuous path started in recent years, which has produced positive results and which we intend to continue.”
There are truly numerous events organized in the area awaiting the stages of the Tour de France Piacenza-Turin on 1st July, which will conclude the Grand Départ from Italy, and Pinerolo-Valloire on 2nd July.
