In the Piedmontese regional elections, characterized by a further increase in abstentionism (45%) and the predictable confirmation of Cirio, the listPopular Piedmont”, which we also built as Power to the People, obtained 1.5% of the preferences (over 28,000 votes).
These months offer us food for thought and indications to continue in Turin and Piedmont the work of building a true social alternative that was represented only a few days ago in the demonstration on June 1st in Rome.
We participated in this electoral campaign with the primary objective of bringing to life also in that context a credible and clear proposal against the warlike drift of a West in a crisis of prospects, against the war twist of the Piedmontese economy and the presence of NATO on our territory, against complicity in the genocide of the Palestinian people, against large-scale useless and devastating projects such as the TAV, against healthcare privatization projects pursued by the right and the centre-left. A proposal declared for struggle and rupture, not for government.
In a short but intense electoral campaign, initially characterized by uncertainty even about the very possibility of being able to present ourselves, we were in the squares and popular neighborhoods every day, also using the electoral campaign as an additional opportunity to talk to our people , of which this time too we have noted the legitimate disillusionment with mainstream politics and the clear perception of the senselessness of the increase in military spending at every level, to the detriment of urgent needs such as healthcare, transport and housing.
The result of Piemonte Popolare does not allow us to elect any representative, however, despite the bureaucratic difficulties encountered, regarding an ambiguous regional electoral law and the media obstructionism which systematically tries to leave us on the margins of the political debate, our proposal speaks to the social majority of the country and we will continue to fight collectively so that it is perceived as credible, concrete and achievable, just as we are building it, through firm ideals, patience and a lot of passion.
An element that gives us confidence are the results found in the places where we have been fighting alongside people for some time and where we were more present in the electoral campaign: San Donato and Barriera di Milano in Turin, where our candidates obtain good consensus, testimony to the validity of a work that began some time ago, certainly not being able to count on media visibility but always and only on presence in the struggles and in the neighborhoods, among the people.
The important results achieved by the list in Valsusa deserve a separate discussion, starting with 14% obtained in the Bussoleno of our Nicoletta Dosio.
The path to building a real alternative is still long but there are no shortcuts: developing a clear and unambiguous political proposal, looking for forms and ways to bring it to life in mass work, are the north stars of hard but necessary work , of a wide-ranging project with solid foundations such as that of Potere al Popolo.
We thank Francesca Frediani, who made herself available to the project, and her companions and traveling companions in this electoral campaign. We naturally thank all those who voted for us and invite you not to give in to resignation, to contact us, to take action together with us to build a force that truly represents the interests of the people.
Let us immediately continue to fight and organize ourselves, to make the social alternative grow in our country, to occupy the space that is ours and which is also growing in other European countries!
