Italy: a depressive vortex arriving from the United Kingdom

A depression vortex, currently descending from the British Isles, will head towards Northern Italy over the weekend. On Sunday, this vortex will isolate itself between the Northwest and the upper Tyrrhenian Sea, positioning itself along the right flank of the anticyclone expanding from the Atlantic. This configuration will bring atmospheric instability to the North and part of the Centre, as well as a general decrease in temperatures, which will extend to the southern regions, attenuating the heat wave. Here is the detailed forecast for the weekend:

Saturday

Northern Italy: The day will start with sunny conditions, except for some cloudiness in the Ligurian East. From the afternoon, instability will increase in the Alpine areas, with showers and thunderstorms that will intensify in the evening, extending to the plains of Piedmont, upper Lombardy and upper Veneto. These phenomena may be locally intense and accompanied by hail. Other northern regions will remain generally sunny and dry.

Temperatures will drop in the Centre-South, although the heat will remain intense in Puglia, Basilicata, Ionian Calabria and central-southern Sicily, with peaks of 40°C in Matera. In the southern Tyrrhenian regions, temperatures will not exceed 30/33°C, values similar to those expected in a large part of the Centre, including Romagna.

The Triveneto will see drier conditions with partial clearing.

Center of Italy: In Tuscany, clouds will increase with rain and thunderstorms, even strong and locally accompanied by hail, from the afternoon. These phenomena will extend in the evening to Umbria, internal Marche and Abruzzo, although in an attenuated form. Other central regions will enjoy sunnier conditions.

Southern Italy and Sardinia: Stable and mostly sunny weather in the South. In Sardinia, some rain will move from the northern areas to the southern ones, followed by sunny spells during the day advancing from the north.

Temperatures will drop further, with highs in the North-West not exceeding 20/22°C. The highest values will be recorded in Lucania and Salento, with peaks of 36°C.
