After the yellow alert on Tuesday, a new one, orange (moderate criticality), was issued by the Lombardy Region on Wednesday afternoon. The warning document is in force from 6pm until 6am on Thursday 13 June: strong storms are expected during this period. This is accompanied by a yellow alert (ordinary criticality) due to hydrogeological risk.
The weather summary
During the afternoon of today, 12/06, the activation of showers and storm fronts is expected, starting from the western and southern areas, extending towards the East or North-East. Phenomena intensifying in the evening with frequent thunderstorms, even of strong intensity, moving from the western and southern plains towards the pre-Alpine areas. In the late evening the most intense phenomena will tend to attenuate in the western areas, while they may persist on Thursday night in the central-eastern areas. Possible local cumulations between 50 and 90 mm in the 12 hours are reported on the plains and Pre-Alps. Generally moderate ventilation with reinforcements from the east on the plains, from the north on the northern hills and from the south on the Apennines; locally strong winds during the most intense convective events.
For the first part of tomorrow, 13/06, scattered showers or residual thunderstorms are expected between the night and early morning, more likely in the southern and central areas, moving towards the East. New instability expected in the afternoon with scattered showers or thunderstorms on the reliefs, and occasionally also affects the plains. Convective phenomena generally attenuate and extinguish in the evening. Weak ventilation, with some reinforcements from the north at high altitude.
The Functional Center will re-evaluate the new forecast scenarios during tomorrow morning, 13/06, for the possible issuing of alert color codes valid for the second part of the day.
