Avellino, Moscati SOS staff: “55 nurses and 100 OSS missing”

Avellino

“For months, NurSind has been reporting the shortage of nursing and social-health personnel in many operational units of the AORN Moscati. In the recent PTFP 2022/2024, approved by the Company, due to the personnel spending cap imposed by national legislation, finds an undersizing of 55 nurses and 100 social and healthcare workers compared to the calculation parameters indicated by DGRC no. 190/2023.

It should also be underlined that the choice not to proceed with the replacement of staff absent from service for long periods (maternity leave, extraordinary leave under Law 104/1992, accidents, etc.) has led to an aggravation of the aforementioned shortage of healthcare workers. This is associated with a questionable distribution of personnel in the various UU.OO., which has generated, in recent years, an excess number of nurses and OSS in some organizational situations and obvious shortages in others.
The solution cannot be to squeeze the staff on duty, who are forced, in many cases, to carry out a high number of overtime shifts. Currently it is not conceivable that in the summer period we will have to face a situation that has now become critical.
However, we welcome positively, even if late, the possible activation of a company working group which will have the task of verifying the distribution of staff resources in the various Operational Units, coinciding with the short-term operation of the new Professions Manager Healthcare.
We await the adoption of organizational solutions by the Strategic Management, aimed at urgently stemming the staffing gaps in multiple Operating Units. The Company is called upon to review its personnel management policies, considering solutions that allow it to effectively and sustainably address the staff shortage.
Nurses are an integral part of the healthcare system and patient care and, without them, the quality of the services provided is significantly compromised.” Nursind said in a note.
