The IX edition of the Nivarata in Acireale has ended

Like every year, also in 2024 Acireale celebrated the granitaa specialty in which he excels. Nivarata The International Sicilian Granita Festival now in its ninth edition, it has put the most skilled ice cream masters to the test, not only from Sicily, but from all over the world.

More than a simple delicacy, the granita it is a true icon of our region, known, appreciated and imitated throughout the world. In addition to the quality of the raw materials with which it is prepared, what makes the difference is also everything that revolves around this exquisite local specialty, that is, a wonderful island full of colours, aromas and flavors that remain imprinted in the minds of those who visit it, even only once.

The selection criteria

The evaluation of granitas and sorbets took into consideration various criteria: congruence of color with taste; flavor perception; sweetness and crystallization of water.

Who won the Nivarata 2024?

Granita of the Year:

1st place: Ghassen Boumellah – Bar Kennedy (Acireale, CT) with the “Granita Essenza di Sicilia”
2nd place: Antonio Scarfone – DeCore (Albano Laziale, RM) with the “Harmony Coconut Amarena Granita
3rd place: Yoshihiro Makino – Patisserie De Magic Premier (Japan) with the “Spiced Paradise Granita“.

Sorbet:

1st place: Gabriele Fiumara – California Cafè (Santa Teresa di Riva, ME) with the “Keto Gianduia Sorbet”
2nd place: Chiara Saffioti – GraniTiamo Graniteria (Palmi, RC) with the “Vento d’Estate Sorbet”
3rd place: Siyeon Yoo – GELATERIA IL PIÚ (Seoul, South Korea) with the “Chilling on the Beach Sorbet”
Other special prizes:

“Best Almond Granita” Award: Angelo Restuccia – Laviko (Acireale, CT) with the “Granita Il Moro di Sicilia”
“Best Fruit Sorbet” Award: Nicolò Serra – Messer Granita (Terrasini, PA) with the “Terrasini Mango Sorbet”
“Best Innovation” Award: Salvatore Agnello – First Opera (Augusta, SR) with the “Granita Ficu Miu” and the “Sorbetto Pane Cunzato”.
