Ragusa. Water, disservices and solutions

“On the part of the Municipality, the monitoring of the service is continuous but the drought that is affecting the entire Sicilian territory and the consequent continuous decline in the aquifers can only lead to some inefficiencies, which however must be well managed.

It is therefore recommended once again to use water with respect for this resource and other citizens, avoiding inappropriate uses”.

This, in summary, is the message of the Mayor of Ragusa, Peppe Cassì, regarding the recent critical issues recorded in the municipal area.

“In recording a piezometric drop in the aquifers of the wells – explains Cassì – Iblea Acque’s choice was to avoid disruptions first and foremost in Ibla and in the centre, for two reasons:

– do not paralyze restaurants and accommodation facilities packed with tourists in what is for them the most important working moment of the year;
– the great difficulty in managing any disruptions with the tanker service between the alleys of the Center and Ibla.

In any case, on Saturday Iblea Acque carried out an operation to upgrade the pumps to be able to fill the Bruscè container. To be clear, being able to fill the Bruscè container means having good pressure distributed for the Bruscè, Ramelli, via Germania, via Terranova areas. The upgrade went well, but a transformer failure during the night slowed down the benefit, which should still be seen in 24-36 hours. At this moment the pumps work with the support of a generator.

Also on Saturday afternoon, the functionality of the main well of the C.da Lusia plant was restored.

The smaller quantity of water released during the fault could lead to disruptions along the distribution network which will be resolved progressively.

We highlighted to Iblea Acque the complaints received regarding the serious shortcomings in the management of telephone calls and requested that they be remedied.

Iblea waters explained to me – concludes Cassì – that there is a problem with telephone disconnection when the operators are busy but that the switchboard problems will be resolved as early as Monday.

At the moment there are no critical issues reported in Marina di Ragusa.”
