Energy efficiency and engines of the future: fifth place for the students of the ITP Luigi Bucci of Faenza at the Shell Eco-marathon 2024

The students of the team from the Luigi Bucci Technical Professional Institute of Faenza returned from the Shell Eco-marathon, a historic competition dedicated to innovation and sustainable mobility, which took place at the Paul Armagnac Circuit in Nogarò, France. The Faenza ITI Racing team, unable to participate last year due to the flood that hit Emilia-Romagna, obtained fifth place in the Urban Concept – Internal Combustion Engine category.

“The competition saw 110 teams from high schools and international universities from 25 countries around the world compete in the “Prototype” and “Urban Concept” categories, consisting of 10 laps of the circuit, for a total distance of 16 km, to be covered in a maximum time of 38 minutes with the lowest possible fuel consumption” they explain from the Faenza Institute.

In particular, the students of the ITIP Bucci of Faenza competed in the two categories with two carbon vehicles: the first, Nova, endothermic, which managed to travel 131.7 km per liter of petrol, winning 5th position; and the second, FABI, electrically operated, managed to cover 219.4 miles per kWh of electricity, finishing 17th in the dedicated race.

“Participating in the 2024 edition of the Shell Eco Marathon was a great revenge and a unique opportunity for the students of our team, in particular following last year, in which the flood that hit Faenza and Emilia-Romagna precluded us from participating.” – declared teacher Vincenzo Mallamaci, project manager for ITIP Bucci –. The kids honored our Institute, a historic participant in the Shell Eco-Marathon, and competed by applying their skills, with passion and enthusiasm.”

“Shell Italia is happy to welcome back to the Shell Eco Marathon the students of the Bucci Professional Technical Institute in Faenza, who returned to compete after the floods in Emilia Romagna, demonstrating how the determination, tenacity and passion of all the kids and the girls cannot be held back. We are proud of the 5th place achieved by the Nova vehicle and of how this competition inspires young people every year to become future changemakers” says Valeria Contino, Shell Italia External Relations and Communications Manager.
