The Como-Lecco line closes pending electrification

Going by train from Como to Lecco is a complicated activity during the year and impossible in the summer, at least for a couple of years now, due to safety measures on the railway line, pending the expected electrification for decades. Starting from tomorrow, and until next September 8th, the service will be suspended between the stations of Albate and Molteno and routes will be replaced by buses with the possibility, to then resume three stations of Como Camerlata and Como San Giovanni, with the trains of the S11 Rho-Milan-Como-Chiasso line. For commuters who had complained in recent weeks because the suspension of travel had been announced just 18 days in advance, when season tickets had already been purchased, RFI and Trenord have replicated travel tickets valid on both trains and connecting buses. between the stations and the service has been designed, in terms of timetable, to guarantee travel needs. A project linked to the electrification of the Como-Lecco line, which not only affects Lombardy, but also the nearby Canton of Ticino, which is always sensitive when there is the possibility of identifying alternative transport solutions to the car to encourage the movement of cross-border workers. In recent days, the Lombardy Region presented the project to its Swiss colleagues which provides for the start of electrification works by 2025, in the stretch between Como Albate and Molteno. “The electrification of the Como-Lecco line – underlined the regional councilor for Infrastructure of the Lombardy Region, Franco Lucente – will allow the Tilo railway services to be extended. We have submitted the timescales indicated by RFI to our Ticino colleagues and reiterated the importance of this ‘works for both territories”.
