The State Police has carried out a precautionary custody order for a 37-year-old Pakistani man accused of violence against his daughter

A 37-year-old Pakistani national was arrested by the State Police in Matera on charges of aggravated domestic abuse and forced marriage against his minor daughter. The precautionary custody order in prison, ordered by the investigating judge of the Court of Matera, was carried out in April.

The Flying Squad’s investigation began after the girl went to the emergency room on April 15 with several bruises. Investigators have reconstructed a series of harassment and physical violence perpetrated by her father, who was trying to force her into an arranged marriage with a cousin in Pakistan.

The girl, in addition to being subjected to constant psychological pressure, was isolated from her friends and her cell phone was taken away. On the evening of April 15, after discovering that his daughter had met a boy, the father cut her hair with scissors and beat her violently with a broom handle, until it broke. The girl managed to escape the brutality only by pretending to faint.

The following day, forced to lie, the girl told the healthcare staff that she had suffered the injuries by falling from her bicycle and was then forced to leave the hospital without being examined. The situation changed the following day thanks to the traveling campaign “A social life” by the State Police, during which the girl confided what had happened to an OSCAD operator.

This revelation allowed investigators to act quickly, leading to the man’s arrest and the girl’s entrustment to Social Services, as required by the “Red Code”. Subsequently, the precautionary custody in prison was converted into house arrest for the man.
