The 7th CBRN Defense Regiment celebrates the anniversary of the Italian Army’s Military Chemical Service

2024. The 101st anniversary of the establishment of the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) units was celebrated yesterday at the 7th CBRN Defense Regiment “Cremona” in Civitavecchia, in the presence of a large representation of civil, military, religious authorities, veterans’ and military associations and personnel who served in the ranks of the regiment.

The foundation of the CBRN units dates back to July 1, 1923, when the Military Chemical Service was established to deal with the new threats that emerged during the First World War, in particular those represented by the use of chemical weapons. Over time, the specialty’s expertise has expanded to include biological, radiological and nuclear threats, leading to the birth of the CBRN units. The CBRN units are responsible for preventing, detecting and responding to attacks and incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear agents. The rigorous training of personnel and the use of advanced technologies allow the Italian Army to operate effectively in a wide range of scenarios, in particular on the national territory in synergy with other components of the State responsible for dealing with emergency situations and crises.

With the spirit of innovation and their professionalism, collaborating with universities, research institutes and industries to develop new tools and techniques for detection, protection and decontamination, the CBRN units of the Italian Army continue today to be a bulwark of security and protection to face and mitigate this type of invisible and lethal threats.
