This morning 146 people were rescued by the Doctors Without Borders (MSF) team on board the Geo Barents, in two different operations in the Libyan SAR area. All rescued people are receiving assistance on board.

The Italian authorities have assigned Civitavecchia as the port of disembarkation.

Update:

Genoa is the new port assigned to Geo Barents of Doctors Without Borders, after the authorities had indicated to us this morning the port of Civitavecchia for disembarkation.

657 nautical miles more before the people on board (another 20 were added to those rescued in the morning in a new rescue operation) can disembark in a safe place and receive the assistance they need.

The Seabird plane, of the German NGO Sea Watch, spotted 11 lifeless bodies off the coast of Libya, the result of a phantom shipwreck, or of the violence of the Libyan Coast Guard financed by Europe. An attempt to contact a Libyan patrol boat – in English and Arabic by radio – to retrieve them received no response. In the end the Geo Barents crew intervened, with a long operation; the bodies are now on board the Doctors Without Borders ship.
