Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena – IT.A.CÀ, “Roots in movement”, responsible tourism festival, returns from 20 June

Appointment starting from June 20th with the second edition of the Sardinian stage “Quartu Sant’Elena and Il Golfo degli Angeli” organized within the national traveling festival IT.A.CA migrants and travelers – Festival of Responsible Tourism, which arrived this year in its XVI edition and which from May to November brings events and appointments on sustainable and inclusive tourism throughout Italy.

The theme of this sixteenth edition of the festival will be “Roots in Movement” which each stage will decline according to its territories and communities. A theme that for the Quartu Sant’Elena stage is particularly felt in a region like Sardinia, from which the inhabitants are often forced to move away, either for study or for work. The Quartu Sant’Elena stage takes place over ten days, from 20 to 30 June, and is organized by the Quartu Sant’Elena Tourist Association with the patronage of the Municipality of Quartu Sant’Elena and the contribution of the Sardinia Foundation; includes a series of events that refer to our roots, to the return home, combining iconic places of our collective imagination with those crafts, or rather real arts, that can open up some drawers of our memory. Places where so much history, sweat and effort, and so much life, have passed through us. The life and places of our ancestors, of the generations that preceded us, such as the former Capuchin Convent, Sa Dom’e Farra, the Campidanese houses Olla, Su Idanu and Murgia-Casanova, the Hotel il Monastero (which was an agricultural company managed by the Jesuits), the Saline, the Nuraghe Diana, the Roman Villa, the war forts. And in these particular stages we find artisans and art masters who still resist the homologations of modern times and globalization, true rebels who pass on our roots.

Tailors of our ancient clothes, master brewers, wine producers, farmers, carpenters, carvers, confectioners, pasta makers, beekeepers, basket makers, falconers, blacksmiths, salt workers, ceramists, nougat makers and carapigneris are just some of the masters who will remind us of our roots. We will listen to stories of fairies (the Janas) and their recipes, we will listen to traditional folk songs and others with jazz influences: a bridge between different cultures. We will have the opportunity to admire old communication tools in a small museum: the “internet” of our great-grandparents: radios. We will walk and cycle in the Molentargius Park with the curious looks of “sa genti arrubia”, among the mountains of the 7 Brothers and we will sail our sea with sailing boats, kayaks and surfboards. In short, a concentration of grace and beauty which we often do not recognize its due value. A people without roots is a people without identity… let’s protect them.
