Modica, Maggiore Hospital, terrible hygienic conditions in the departments. The patients report –

We continue to shine the spotlight on the Ospedale Maggiore in Modica because unfortunately we continue to receive reports of, let’s call them disservices, even if this time the issue goes beyond the disservice and concerns more the hygiene conditions.

In fact, think about the pediatric department, how complicated it is for parents to know that they have to admit their child to hospital because they are ill and find themselves in a room where the hygienic conditions leave something to be desired.

The photos we show you were taken by a father who during his son’s hospital stay repeatedly pointed out to the staff the presence of “little animals” better known as fleas on the windowsill.

The cause of these unpleasant presences, within not only the pediatric department but the entire hospital, is due to the pigeons that nest in the windows with all the consequences of the case.

If you remember, a few years ago hawks were even hired to try to hunt pigeons but apparently not even this system worked (read here)

Now we certainly don’t have to explain how important it is to guarantee hygienic conditions in a hospital, in reality we shouldn’t even talk about this, because we say that these are obvious, normal things but apparently this is not the case.

Obviously the presence of these animals and the conditions in which the windows are found do not even allow them to be opened to circulate the air which, let’s say, in a hospital is not always excellent.

Among the various reports there are also those who point out that regarding dirt and animals, there is the former auditorium in the new wing, designed only in 1976 and never finished. This structure should be either finished or demolished and instead it is currently a shelter for dogs, cats and mice.

Should we continue?

We believe that at least on this issue it is necessary to intervene as soon as possible because one cannot go to hospital to be treated and risk catching some other disease due to poor hygiene.

At the complaints office they say that even though these problems are pointed out, no one intervenes and things don’t change. What if they started to change? Maybe with a good inspection by the competent authorities…

Let’s think, for example, of an intervention by the Nas, who when they intervene do not look at anyone.
