End of school year party at the Campagna Amica Market. Thus it was that Piazza Castello, in Casale Monferrato, was colored yellow thanks to the presence of the primary school students “Martyrs of Freedom” who, ‘armed’ with Coldiretti hats and a seasonal wheel, recognized and touched the productions firsthand. at kilometer zero.

Last Thursday’s group has given way to today’s much larger group, with the same curious looks and big smiles. With an end-of-school atmosphere and a desire to be outdoors, the Campagna Amica Market has become the perfect classroom for a lesson on quality and seasonality, on the world of bees but also on the aromas and flavors of food.

The true Made in Italy, the respect for the territory and for agriculture explained directly by those who cultivate and look after it, the choice of good and healthy food, guaranteed directly by the farms that produce it.

Accompanied by the teachers, full of enthusiasm, the children showed up at the market, ready to enjoy a very special “journey through the flavors” of the province’s agriculture.

They asked questions to the producers of seasonal fruit and vegetables, about cereals and were fascinated by the story about the world of bees and discovered how they live and what rules there are in the apiary, which they were able to see up close, obviously in safety.

“It is always engaging and exciting to observe the interest that the world of agriculture attracts, especially among the little ones. A lesson in the field of the short supply chain to learn how to eat well by eating healthy products of certified origin and to make the new generations aware of the work carried out daily with commitment and dedication by our agricultural businesses to bring genuine, quality food to our tables”, stated the President of Coldiretti Alessandria Mauro Bianco.

“We think involving young people is the best way to spread and raise awareness and the importance of enjoying seasonal local products, continuing a path that is giving important results, especially if we talk about a “green turn” and rules for not wasting food and water – added the provincial director of Coldiretti Alessandria Roberto Bianco -. It is always an honor and a pleasure to be able to collaborate with schools, the idea of ​​organizing educational-training moments is a fundamental added value for educating the new generations to focus on distinctiveness and sustainability, guaranteeing added value in the global competition that sees centre, tourism, culture, art, food and cuisine”.

For the entire school year, Coldiretti Alessandria, thanks to the project “Food education among the desks”, met hundreds of pupils and dozens of teachers with the aim of raising awareness, thanks to a multidisciplinary path and lessons in educational farms, future citizens and consumers, to correct lifestyles for their own well-being and that of the environment but also to carry out initiatives and activities to fully disseminate the value and dignity of agriculture, underlining its fundamental role for the protection of environment, territory, traditions and culture, with particular attention to health and food safety.

And in the coming weeks the teaching activity continues thanks to the summer centers organized in the educational farms of Campagna Amica while the new training plan for the 2024/2025 school year is being defined.
