Itri, summit in the Prefecture after damage from bad weather

The summit was held in the prefecture on the problem of disruption caused by bad weather in Itri in recent days. At the table, stimulated and much requested by the administration, were present the Prefect, who immediately accepted this request, Wanda D’Ercole regional director of public works and defense of the subsoil of the Lazio Region (connected from Rome), the engineer Monacelli responsible Province of Latina of the environment and hydrogeological instability, the Tulumello director of the regional Civil Protection agency. The Deputy Mayor Elena Palazzo, the councilor Mario Di Mattia and a technical staff represented the Municipality of Itri. The result of the meeting was excellent. The Region, having recorded the delicate situation in the city to date, and having completed the necessary studies this year, has planned an inspection of the area to implement the necessary actions to resolve the problem.

The second step will be to move on to the spending commitment necessary for the Region to proceed with the recovery plan. On Monday, Engineer D’Ercole accompanied by civil engineering experts will carry out the aforementioned inspection which will be decisive for proceeding with the operational phase which will see the safety of the mountain and the areas subject to landslide danger. After a year of studies and close contacts with the administration, it seems that a turning point has been reached.

Subsequently, a meeting took place at the municipal house with all the families forced to evacuate their homes at every orange alert. The meaning of the meeting is, in addition to informing on the steps taken and the results achieved, to start working as a team to ensure that everyone is rowing in the same direction to reach the long-awaited goal. The administration has learned that there is an intention to form a citizens’ committee to deal with the emergency and welcomes this initiative. The poisonous climate that has been created in the city, in which political speculation is prolific, is not a harbinger of positive results.

The contacts, the meetings, the steps taken throughout the year are finally bringing results which must translate, it is reiterated, into the resolution of the problem. If this crisis is overcome quickly it will be thanks to those who believed in it and worked on it and to the citizens who endured enormous sacrifices, certainly not to those who seek speculation and exasperate people. This administration has worked hard throughout the year to overcome bureaucratic delays and make its voice heard, sometimes even decisively, at all levels. The eviction order, which initially appeared as a solution, would have taken families out of their homes permanently for the entire year and until the mountain was made safe. It was Mayor Agresti who wanted to meet the needs of families by issuing the open evacuation ordinance which triggers evacuation only in the event of an orange alert. In this complex and delicate situation everyone must work in a cohesive and united manner to return to the peaceful life that was lived before this period.
