MS in Italy affects 133,000 people, with an estimated 2570 cases in our region alone. Chronic, unpredictable, often disabling, it affects a person every 2.5 hours and is mostly diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 40, in the period of life most full of plans for the future, even if there are cases at a later age and cases of Pediatric MS, more rarely in children under 10 years. The causes of multiple sclerosis are still unknown, probably linked to a combination of genetic predisposition and environmental factors. To date, there is no definitive cure for this disease. The provincial section of L’Aquila, located in Cavalletto D’Ocre in Via Fontamara, 12, guarantees many services to people with multiple sclerosis in our area. Among these: social secretariat, home help, recreational and socialization activities, transport services with equipped vehicles, accompaniment to specialist visits and rehabilitation as well as moments dedicated to information such as the one on 7 June; and much more. All the activities described are managed by volunteers and young people in civil service.
