Franchini was intent on climbing Mount Cashan, a 5,716 meter peak in the Huaraz area, the cornice of snow and rock on which the 35-year-old was proceeding broke away, causing the man to fall into the void.

Who was Tomas Franchini

Tomas Franchini, born on March 9, 1989, was a mountaineer, mountain guide and ski instructor. In his short climbing career, Franchini has achieved several peaks in both Europe and South America.

Precisely on the Latin continent, in 2018, Tomas climbed the Andes on a roped team, together with his brother Silvestrocompleting the “Los Picos 6500” project, i.e. the concatenation of the highest peaks of the South American mountain range.

Franchini had also climbed the Chinese Himalayas, on the still unclimbed western slope of Mount Edgar, becoming also Piolet d’Or finalist, the most important world mountaineering recognition. He had also published a book, in 202, entitled “Virgin lines among the mountains of the world”.
