On the evening of Saturday 1 June 2024, at 6.00 pm, the “X edition Capocolonna Crotone” kicked off, a race included in the FIDAL calendar and masterfully organized by the ASD Milonrunners, chaired by Antonio Pizzuti. The competition started from the Madonna di Capocolonna Sanctuary and ended on the wonderful seafront of Crotone, precisely at Piazzale Ultras.
Among the approximately 200 athletes who tackled the technical and tiring 10.2 km route, Cirò Krimisa Runners stood out with its representatives Vincenzo Vozzo, Andrea Cardone and Francesco Sprovieri. The breathtaking view along the route alleviated the athletes’ fatigue, making the event even more evocative.
Moving on to the technical part of the race, Vincenzo Vozzo confirmed his consistency and ability by placing himself among the best. With a time of 38’53”, he achieved a prestigious 2nd place in the Master 40 category, bearing the name of his town with pride and honor.
After a period of absence from competitions, Andrea Cardone is roaring back. An athlete esteemed and respected by all runners in the area, Cardone has recently boasted times that would be the envy of the best athletes around. Although he is not yet in top physical form, he declared: “I want to get back into the game, even if I am still far from my best physical form, but in any case I return from Crotone with the right conviction that I am on the right path in anticipation of future races” . Cardone finished the race with a significant time of 50’05”.
Francesco Sprovieri, always present, closes the trio with a time of 56’10”.
The first athlete overall to cross the finish line at Piazzale Ultras was Danilo Ruggiero, registered with the Circolo Minerva, with a time of 31’50”. Among the women, Francesca Paone of the Hobby Marathon Catanzaro confirmed her dominance by imposing herself with a time of 41’19”.
The “X edition Capocolonna Crotone” proved to be a very successful event, highlighting the commitment and passion of the athletes and organizers, and giving emotions and satisfaction to all participants.
