The State Police of Modena has reported a 27-year-old Italian citizen and a 25-year-old Moroccan national to freedom for the crimes of aggravated theft and receiving stolen goods.
On the night between 1 and 2 June 2024, around one o’clock, the Flying Squad intervened at a restaurant, located in the Madonnina area, as the presence of a man had been reported who, after having broken the door of the restaurant with a sewer manhole, had escaped together with an accomplice in a car whose license plate had been provided by the person requesting the intervention.
Once the police arrived on site, she found the manhole cover near the restaurant on which traces of blood were still present. During the search for the two men, the officers noticed a person wearing a hood walking along the Mazzoni overpass, who at the sight of the police accelerated his pace, trying to escape.
The 27-year-old suspect, already known to the police, was stopped and identified and had a visible blood stain on the right sleeve of his sweatshirt. The sum of 77.70 euros in cash was found in his pockets – which was found to correspond to the amount of money present in the restaurant’s cash fund – and the key to a car, which the young man admitted was the proceeds of theft and was parked in Via Diena. Near the vehicle, whose license plate coincided with the one reported, was the 25-year-old, who had visible lacerations on both hands with copious blood leakage. Even inside the vehicle, in the front part, there were stains of blood.
The two then admitted that shortly before they had committed a theft inside a restaurant using a sewer manhole.
The 25-year-old was also referred to the Judicial Authority for the crime of illegal entry and stay on the national territory.
The vehicle and the money found were subjected to criminal seizure.
