Weather forecast Abruzzo Tuesday 2 July 2024: bad weather is coming and instability phenomena will be possible in the next few hours. Heat will ease over the weekend: instability will return from Sunday evening

SITUATION. Our peninsula continues to be affected by a promontory of high pressure of North African origin that determines stable weather conditions in the center-south with temperatures well above seasonal averages, while due to the gradual weakening of the high pressure, the northern regions are affected by the arrival of humid air masses of Atlantic origin that, in the next few hours will favor the development of thunderstorms, even of strong intensity.

As anticipated in previous updates, the heat wave of these days has its hours numbered as the weakening of the high pressure will begin to extend also towards our central regions starting from the next few hours and during the day of Saturday and, consequently, the temperatures will gradually decrease again awaiting the arrival of a core of fresh air of Atlantic origin that, between Sunday evening and Tuesday, will extend over a large part of our central-northern regions favoring a marked increase in instability with a high probability of showers and thunderstorms, even of strong intensity, especially on Monday. In the next few hours, moreover, cloudiness and possible phenomena of instability will also be possible in our central regions, in particular in the mountainous areas and in the Adriatic sector, improving in the evening and at night.

FORECAST. Initial conditions of partly cloudy skies are expected in our region over the Alto Sangro, in the Chieti, Pescara and Peligna Valleys, while cloudiness will be possible in the morning in the L’Aquila and Teramo areas, occasionally associated with scattered precipitation, mixed with dust/sand. Between the late morning and the afternoon, significant cloudiness will be possible near the reliefs, occasionally associated with thunderstorms, extending towards the Adriatic sector but easing by late afternoon-evening. Stable and mainly sunny weather on Saturday but with temperatures gradually decreasing, especially in the maximum values.

TEMPERATURES. Stationary but still well above seasonal averages: maximum values locally above +38°C/+40°C expected in the L’Aquila area, in the Peligna Valley, in Val Pescara and in Val di Sangro.

WINDS. Light to breeze with possible reinforcements during possible thunderstorms.

SEA. Generally almost calm or slightly rough.
