For a week, entrepreneurs and farmers demonstrated in front of Palazzo d’Orleans against the drought emergency that is bringing Sicily to its knees. The reason for this protest arises from the need to ask the Region for support to be able to combat this difficult period. This is a demonstration of dissent started after the large demonstration of May 28th, which signed all the points proposed by Coldiretti Sicilia after days of meetings and negotiations.
Drought in Sicily, Schifani face to face with farmers
The President of the Region Renato Schifani spoke directly with the farmers, who after highlighting the fundamental contribution of Coldiretti to deal with the drought emergency, spoke of a voucher with which farmers can be supplied with hay, with the possibility of being able to purchase from the official retailers indicated in the list provided by the Region, as requested by the president and director of Coldiretti, Francesco Ferreri and Prisco Lucio Sorbo present at the meeting.
Coldiretti’s contribution
Coldiretti’s other great victory concerns the political table, which is fundamental so that all the departments working in the various sectors of agriculture and agri-food can find solutions and funds to deal with situations before they become emergency. Another crucial issue for Coldiretti concerned the Land Reclamation Consortia: each commissioner will be supported by a consultation of farmers who can give their contribution to a special “control room”.
