Extremely tense situation at the San Giovanni in Fiore Hospitalin the province of Cosenza. A health system almost in collapse, as reported by the M5S regional councilor Davide Tavernise. “Eleven days in the month of July in which sthe absence of anesthetists is foreseen. Eleven days in which “any emergencies and urgencies must be deferred to other hospital facilities”.
A very serious fact
“This is the communication forwarded yesterday by the Provincial Health Authority of Cosenza in which a personal emergency is effectively established which will result in the blocking of the operational unit. A very serious fact that calls into question the Occhiuto model and the failure to hire medical personnel in the most exposed sectors, and that of anesthetists unfortunately falls into this list”.
“It is not possible to passively accept that a Hospital in a Disadvantaged Area can close departments and no longer provide services for such a long period of time. Especially in the middle of summer when the municipality is repopulating and the presence of a health facility takes on even greater importance”.
Risk of blocking the operational unit
“We are witnessing ahealth organization that is no longer able to manage the forces in the field in a rational manner, even going so far as to decree the closure of departments rather than taking action in time. Unfortunately President Occhiuto’s decision-making and personalistic line reveals all his limitations”.
“Limitations also in the field of health and its wait-and-see attitude on crucial issues, such as failure to take a position on the case of the so-called “hidden doctors”means that no possible solutions can be seen immediately. However, we believe that immediate intervention by the governor is necessary to prevent the blocking of the operational unit and the normal functioning of the hospital in San Giovanni in Fiore” – conclude Tavernise.
