The Minimum Vital Flow (DMV) is the residual flow rate which, in a watercourse, leads downstream to water collections to safeguard the characteristics of the water bodies.
DEFINITION OF ECOLOGICAL RUNFLOW
To take greater account of the correlation between the quantitative aspects and the quality of the water body, the Ecological Outflow (DE) was introduced. The DE is an evolution compared to the DMV: with it we move from guaranteeing a minimum instantaneous flow rate to guaranteeing an ideal hydrological regime. The objective remains the achievement of the environmental objectives indicated by the Community Framework Directive on Water no. 2000/60/EC.
CORRECTIVE FACTORS FOR THE MINIMUM VITAL OUTFLOW
The determination of the Ecological Runoff occurs mainly through the application of corrective factors to the DMV. The Lombardy reclamation consortia through the regional ANBI have put forward a series of observations to obtain improvements. The water bodies for which the final DE values are particularly penalizing for the agricultural/irrigation sector will be the subject of specific in-depth studies. The DE values currently calculated for these water bodies will therefore be suspended (they will therefore not be applied starting from January 2025); in fact, we will await the outcome of the in-depth investigations.
Here it will also be possible to activate specific tables with the Consortia involved. Objective to coordinate verification activities. A preparatory meeting was held on Thursday 23 May between the representatives of the reclamation consortia, ANBI Lombardia and the representatives of the regional General Directorates of Local Authorities and Agriculture and of ERSAF.
