News at the Venice Boat Show

A great opportunity also for most important and iconic brands of Made in Italy given the presence of over 50 buyers from all over the world. For this reason the Ferretti group brought the flagship of motor boats to Venice “Shuttle 38”, already at the center of an exclusive event in the Venetian lagoon. 38.76 meters long, it was built with the exterior design by architect Filippo Salvetti and the interior design by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel.

Azimut Benetti presented and exhibited Seedeck 6 in the dock, a boat dedicated to sustainability and energy saving which attracted the attention of visitors.

A hybrid and solar system for propulsion and on-board services needs is the solution catamaran in Wider 92 of the group of the same name, with two hulls to allow the creation of volumes that can only be achieved with much greater lengths.

Sailboats

Great interest also for sailboats. From real yachts such as the Jeanneau Yacht 65, built in Monfalcone by the French group Beneteau, to the Pago 30, a boat intended for fast cruising which has a modern large and planing hull and where six can sleep with two double beds and sofas in the dinette.

A worldwide success

Few examples of a boat show that in 5 years has already achieved global significance also with the support of ICE and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented in Venice by President Matteo Zoppas and Minister Antonio Taiani. Both underlined during the opening ceremony the value of Italian exports which reach several billion euros and how fundamental the nautical sector is. “In 2023 the nautical sector exported products worth 9.1 billion euros with a growth of over 105% compared to 2019” – said the president of the Ice, Matteo Zoppas – Figures that reflect the skill of the Italian entrepreneurs who have been capable of occupying 50% of the world market for superyachts over 24 metres, becoming the undisputed leader both for the quality of the products and for the supply chain”.

Yachts and superyachts are a historical presence in Venice, often moored on the Riva dei Sette Martiri with a privileged view of the San Marco Basin. VIPs come here from all over the world: from Bill Gates to sheikhs with ten wives in tow. But now Venice wants to manage this rich slice of international tourism in a different way. This was announced by the mayor of Venice, Luigi Brugnaro, when inaugurating the 2024 Boat Show. “Venice’s desire is to return to being a protagonist in the nautical sector” said mayor Brugnaro – “The nautical sector still has room for growth, allowing us to invest and improve further. The prospect is great and this sector is beneficial for the country. The objective is for Venice to return to welcoming large boats and for new places to be designed to make room for the creation of docks capable of hosting the boats. We must create the conditions for prosperous coexistence, making the city welcoming to the nautical sector. It is an important challenge, but we have everything it takes to win it by joining forces.” Among the mayor’s proposals is also that of exploiting the Maritime station for cruise ships, now unused because the large ships, after the Draghi decree, which prohibits passage in the San Maro Basin, moor in Marghera, to host even during the winter yachts from all over the world for mooring but above all for maintenance work”.

The boat show is not only a showcase for large international groups but an opportunity to see and try the latest innovations in the pleasure boating sector with the solutions adopted in the field of energy saving. Among these NatPower H which presented a boat with 100% hydrogen propulsion in a multimedia stand.

The Ferretti group proposed the Riva El-Iseo, a full electric version of the well-known Iseo, the smallest runabout motorboat in the Riva range. Marian from Germany presented M800spyder, an electric motorboat with a habitable bow. The Porsche 850 Phantom was exhibited from Austria, in collaboration with the well-known car manufacturer that supplied the engine.

Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia and MUVE Academy presented a selection of studies and projects for sustainable navigation carried out by students from the La Spezia-Promostudi University Campus, University of Trieste and Polytechnic of Milan.

Numerous collateral events enlivened the five days of the Boat Show in the vast area of the Arsenal, granted by the Navy which brought some ships from its fleet: the Tedeschi, Procida and Pantelleria ships moored inside the Arsenal, while the Sirio and Morosini ships in the nearby Riva San Biagio and Riva dei Sette Martiri respectively. The guided tours of the Enrico Dandolo submarine crowned the initiatives of the Navy in the spaces of the Arsenale.
