TERAMO. Green light for the anti-seismic consolidation works of the sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie. The intervention is among the post-earthquake projects that were at the center of a meeting in the prefecture in recent days. These are works, financed with the Pnrr and which affect the area surrounding the place of worship. The Board of Public Works and the Archaeological, Fine Arts and Landscape Superintendence, as well as the companies and designers involved, participated in the table, coordinated by the prefecture. There are four projects underway in the area and which must be completed in compliance with the deadlines set by the Pnrr in December 2025. Among these there is therefore the project involving the sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie.
The church, adjacent to the Franciscan convent, was closed for worship at the end of August 2016, immediately after the first of the strong seismic tremors of that period, due to damage which particularly affected the vaults. The structure was made safe with urgent work to position nets to contain further collapse, so much so that it could be used again within a few weeks. Since then, the need for more substantial reinforcement works has remained, for which almost four million euros allocated by the Ministry of the Interior have been allocated. The Superintendency will take care of the consolidation interventions of the sanctuary, owned by the FEC – the Fund for places of worship – and managed by the prefecture. The Superintendency will, however, take care of the three energy efficiency and seismic risk mitigation interventions of the judicial offices owned by the municipality, for a total operation worth almost 19 million euros. During the meeting, a working group was formed which began the analysis of interference between the different construction sites, sharing with the technicians the need to ensure adequate planning and coordination of the works. “There will be inevitable inconveniences, to address which every effort must be made both by institutions and private individuals”, observes the prefect Fabrizio Stelo«this is a unique opportunity to give citizens back full use of buildings that still bear the signs of the earthquake».
