Energy transition, Sicily at the center with “HEYSUN – Expo” – BlogSicilia

ROME (ITALPRESS) – Sicily places itself at the center of the dialogue between stakeholders and international players in the reflection on the energy transition and does so with “HEYSUN – the Energy Transition Expo”. Catania, in particular, will host this important exhibition which was presented to the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy and which will take place in the SiciliaFiera area in Misterbianco between 25 and 27 September.
Adolfo Russo, Minister of Business and Made in Italy, took part in the presentation which involved Pietro Piccinetti, president of the AEFI Internationalization Commission, Nino Di Cavolo, president of SICILIAFIERA, Rosario Lanzafame, president of the HEYSUN Scientific Technical Committee and the ambassador of Kenya, Fredrick L. Matwang’a.
“This initiative is significant, because it is an exhibition on the energy transition in which we are engaged on the front line and because it takes place in Sicily in an area where the future of Italian companies is betting on the dual energy and digital transition. This is because Italian-led investments are being made in that area which will allow us to create in Sicily companies capable of producing green and digital technology which are fundamental for our country to win in global competitiveness”, underlines Minister Urso, who adds : “What will become Enel’s largest 3Sun plant in Europe supported by the 5.0 transition plan is being built in Catania. In the same area, the most important micro electronics production center in Europe is being developed with ST Microelectronics. Therefore, it is important that an energy transition fair is held in that area to allow others to settle in Sicily and Italy using the tools we have put in place for supply and demand with the industry development contracts Net Zero. There are the rules, the resources and today also this important event which will be able to highlight the importance of setting out together in the competitive challenge regarding ecology and business”.
This is the first trade fair event in southern Italy dedicated to renewable energy and the acceleration of the energy transition which is already underway and therefore requires sudden and necessary attention, a basic objective of Heysun: it will therefore be an important occasion that through an innovative, cultural and scientific hub in the heart of the Mediterranean, between Europe, the Middle East and Africa, it will act as a place for discussion, with meetings and round tables, to find solutions, present technologies and services, but also to analyze contemporary and future scenarios .
The organization of the Exhibition was commented by Piccinetti of AEFI: “We are the second largest trade fair in Europe. Now finally thanks to this private initiative we have a fair in the south. We are in the right political moment to develop the Mattei Plan. Sicily is in the center of the Mediterranean and can act as a driving force to intensify the socio-economic business opportunity of the Mattei Plan. It can also be a fundamental social and economic multiplier for Italian industrial policy.”
There will be many topics involved in these three days: from Photovoltaics – solar thermal and solar thermodynamic, wind power plants, generation and use of hydrogen, sustainable electric mobility, renewable energy communities – CER and energy efficiency.
According to Rosario Lanzafame “there are all the conditions for this transition process to ennoble Sicily and this lies in the fact that there are particularly favorable conditions. Our young people from the University of Catania and beyond are oriented in the field of hydrogen. The Fair will talk about hydrogen days starting from the Sicilian Hydrogen Hub in Europe”.
In detail there will be over 80 thousand square meters involving pavilions, external areas and car parks, to tell the story of the change, already underway, from the direct voice of its protagonists: businesses, bodies, organisations, utilities, start-ups, institutions and citizens. Nino Di Cavolo, president of SICILIAFIERA, explained the reason for this project: “Today with the energy transition we look to the future and the protection of our planet. It is a project wanted by SiciliaFiera because today Sicily is a highly attractive energy hub. Our land has a particular radiation. The sun does not abandon us and this causes companies to talk about photovoltaics while looking to Sicily. This project was intended to enhance the energy transition in Sicily, because it can start from there. It was also born out of the desire to give attention to the local authorities, Region, Municipalities and bring them closer to what is part of the energy community. The Sicily region enjoys great development and today is attentive to this issue.”
“With Africa – underlined Ambassador Fredrick L. MatWang’A – we will support this initiative regarding the transformation in the field of electricity. We are focused on agriculture, climate change and energy. We are trying to dedicate ourselves to education to bring new investors and to organize a fair, for an exchange between Italy and Kenya to bring people to visit Kenya”.
