The first edition of SOUx Taranto – School of Architecture for Children ends at the seaside, which has been held two Saturdays a month since last November in the San Gaetano Centre, in the Old City.

A path included in the Isola che Accoglie project, which sees the Symbolum association as the leader in the process of regeneration and transformation of an abandoned place into a social hub, thanks to the support of the CON IL SUD Foundation.

Saturday 25 May from 10.00 to 12.00 from Città Vecchia the children will move to Viale del Tramonto, at the height of the beacon for the last Soux meeting of the year, in collaboration with Jonian Dolphin Conservation.

The young participants will discover the sandy coast of the area with JDC teachers Linda Portulano and Sabrina Positano. Like new explorers, they will discover the finds on the beach in the company of microscopes, stethoscopes and binoculars for spotting dolphins. There will be no shortage of beach towel and swimsuit for a final swim and a festive farewell to after the summer.

Soux is an innovative way of educating children. Study with them a new way of imagining the city, the environment, the territory and creating community. The school provides children with tools to become future citizens of Taranto and the world, and to do so it chooses the languages of architecture, art and creativity to express their curiosity, their interests and their desires. The objective of the SOUx project is not to create the “Archistars” of the future, but to give participants confidence in their creative abilities.

SOUx – Architecture School for Children is a project curated by the SOUper cultural association and was launched in 2016 within the FARM Cultural Park in Favara with the patronage of the Polytechnic of Milan. The school has a Scientific Committee made up of Andrea Bartoli, founder of Farm Cultural Park, and four authorities from the world of Architecture and the Academy: Maurizio Carta, Marco Imperadori, Salvator-John Liotta and Francesco Lipari.

Every year the School of Architecture for Children chooses a specific theme to address. The one chosen for 2023/24 was “UTOPIA. Making the impossible possible. Utopia as a horizon”. The theme of the 2024/2025 season will be revealed at the meeting on Saturday 25 May.
