The kids from “Minibasket in the Square” visit the Matera State Police – Matera Police Headquarters

Enthusiasm from the young athletes who saw the steering wheels, the Operations Room and the equipment used by the Scientific Police up close

This year too, the kids from the international “Minibasket in Piazza” tournament arrived in Matera. Organized by the Pielle Matera Amateur Sports Association, 48 teams take part in the tournament, made up of boys and girls aged between ten and eleven, coming from Italy and various parts of the world.
This morning, 60 young basketball players participating in the event went to the police station to get to know the Matera State Police up close. The young people from Padua and the cities of Benghazi (Libya), Toronto (Canada) and Belgrade (Serbia) were welcomed by Maura and Roberto, two policemen who operate on the patrol cars, who explained to them that the policeman is a person to trust , friend of all citizens who respect the rules and always ready to intervene to help those in need and guarantee safety.


The young athletes first observed the steering wheels closely, mounting and looking inside them and being attracted by the instruments they are equipped with, such as flashing lights and two-way radios.
They then visited two very important offices of the structure, one to guarantee security in the area, the other to identify those responsible for the crimes: the Telecommunications Operations Center, which receives calls from citizens directed to 113 and coordinates the interventions of the police in the area and the Provincial Scientific Police Cabinet, with its cutting-edge technological instrumentation to carry out surveys and analyzes on environments and artefacts found at the crime scene.
The kids responded enthusiastically, asking some questions to the operators, showing excitement in closely observing the service cars and intrigued by the numerous technical instruments present in the Operations Center and at the Scientific Police.

Before leaving, the little visitors received some gadgets from the State Police as a souvenir of the day spent at the police station.
With their eyes still emotional from the truly special moments experienced in the company of the policemen, the boys left the Police Headquarters, ready to face the next mini-basketball challenge.
