Mercedes chases the comeback

One in Miami Mercedes power unit returned to success in F1 – it hadn’t happened since the Brazilian GP in 2022 when George Russell and Lewis Hamilton scored a double – with Lando Norris and McLaren confirmed itself as a great protagonist also in Imola with the Englishman arriving in the exhaust of Max Verstappen under the checkered flag (Oscar Piastri was even faster than Norris in Q3, finishing 71 thousandths behind the Red Bull driver).

Mercedes did not go further than sixth and seventh place in Emilia Romagna, very far between the three top teams. The team principal Toto Wolff however, he is satisfied with the responses given by the updates mounted on the W15: The small step forward we made in Imola was encouraging. The team worked very hard to bring our latest updates to the track and the performance was significantly superior. That said, the others have improved too. We are still one step behind the top three teams and there is still a lot of work to do. However, we have a clear direction and developments in the pipeline. We now have a more solid base on which to build and we are confident that, over time, we will be able to join the leading group.”.

The Munich weekend is already on the horizon, which Wolff frames thus: “The work continues this weekend in Monaco. It’s a unique circuit and a fantastic challenge for the team and drivers. It is always difficult to predict how different teams will perform, but we will try to maximize what we have available by having a clean weekend from an operational point of view. It’s always a special weekend and we can’t wait to put on a good show.”
