This year too, the Bari Cancer Institute confirms its presence at the city edition of the Race for the Cure: the most famous sporting event dedicated to the prevention and treatment of breast cancer. As per tradition, the oncologist from Bari will guarantee free visits and tests today and tomorrow in Piazza Prefettura and will participate with a large team of doctors, nurses, patients and former patients in the amateur race on the Bari seafront scheduled for Sunday.
“This year – explains the general director, Alessandro Delle Donne – we are bringing an important innovation to the Race. We will be present with a mobile unit and thanks to the collaboration with the Prevention Department and the Sisp of the Bari Local Health Authority we will proceed with the administration of the anti-HPV (Papilloma Virus) vaccine for those who fall within the screening range: boys and girls aged 11 years of age, women born since 1989 and men born since 1996″.
Anti-HPV vaccination, as is known, prevents almost 90% of HPV-related cancers, including various urogenital and oropharyngeal cancers. “We participate with enthusiasm in this event – continues Delle Donne – because we deeply share its spirit: we must always take care of our health, not just when we go to hospital. Prevention can also be a celebration, a joyful moment of sharing.” Vaccines against the papilloma virus, but not only.
Today, Friday 17 Maystarting from 3 pm the medical staff of the Cancer Institute will also be present in the Race village for other health services: dermatological visitsensured by dermatologists Gianni Di Turi and Rosalba Buquicchio; breast visits, breast ultrasounds and reading of mammography testsedited by radiologist Daniele La Forgia; endocrinological visitsedited by the endocrinologist Gaetano Achille.
Saturday 18 Mayat 9.30, the speech of the general director Delle Donne is expected in the conference area to present the aims and services of the AMORe network, the Mediterranean Oncological Alliance in the Network, which brings together the three scientific hospitalization and treatment institutes of southern Italy: l the oncological hospital of Bari, the Crob of Rionero in Vulture and the “Pascale” of Naples.
Sunday 19 Maythen we get on the track. The oncology team, which last year took home the prize for the largest female team, will be captained by Maurizio Ressa, director of the Institute’s complex plastic and reconstructive surgery structure. Participants include, among others, the members of the Institute’s breast unit and the volunteers of the Ui Togheter association.
