Sunday 5 May 2024 – An interesting conference was held in Naples, in the Hotel Mediterraneo, organized by the President of the Coordination of the Associations of Diabetic Patients of Campania Fabiana Anastasio, aimed at bringing together the different subjects involved in the different realities of the South of ‘Italy, on this insidious disease such as Diabetes, to try to be a “team”, especially in the unfortunate prospect of the so-called “Differentiated Autonomy”.
From the comparison between the various speakers, coming from the Southern Regions (for Basilicata the General Director of the Department of Health and Personal Policies Massimo Mancini and President ALAD FAND Antonio Papaleo lights and shadows emerged, as particularly highlighted by Paola Pisanti former President and Coordinator of the National Commission on Diabetes Plan and Chronic Disease Plan of the Ministry of Health.
Diabetes – it is specified in a note – is one of the main causes of morbidity in our country; a social disease of epidemiological dimensions which affects not simply the patient, but the family, healthcare structures, assistance and the world of work, in given its asymptomatic nature, it induces very serious complications with obvious repercussions on health and social spending.
The priority objective of the initiative is aimed at establishing a structured network in which all specialists can interact to ensure more appropriate care of the patient in order to not only prevent the onset of complications, but also give them a more worthy life. be lived.
This is true for the South in general, but – – it should be noted – mainly for a reality such as Basilicata, given its disjointed and lacking road and transport infrastructure.
For this reason, many patients let themselves go without treatment and those who can afford it increase healthcare migration, despite the fact that there is a Specific Regional Law, 9/2010which expressly provides for “Integrated Hospital-Territory Network Assistance for Diabetic Pathology and Endocrine-Metabolic Pathologies”, whose implementation is still awaited.
