International recognition Cuneo Alpine City 2024 provided new motivation and particular emphasis to Cuneo Mountain Festival (www.festivaldellamontagna.it), event born in 2014 on the initiative of the Municipality of Cuneo, always dedicated to the all-round in-depth study of the themes of the High Lands – from the environment to tourism, to cinematography and cultural and study aspects -, in a context in which the city feels strongly linked to the mountains and tries to re-propose bonds and relationships collaboration with its communities, bodies and local realities.

This year the program is structured from 14 to 19 May, appears even richer than usual. The event, entitled “Alpine soul”, will be inaugurated by the American climber Tommy Caldwellparticularly awaited for its sensational mountaineering history very rarely in Italy.

The meetings will then space out from dialogues on Alpine architecture to the debate on the role of refuges and tourism management in an era of great environmental fragility.

The 1May 7 will be held onAlpine city assembly with the presentation of the territorial strategy project “Alpine Crescent”a profile of innovative development images for the uniting area Cuneo, Saluzzo and Mondovì with their valleys in a homogeneous band. The central and elegant Via Roma will become a space for discussion between mountain communities and city communities.

K2 – The mountain of the Italians and Prime Minister Alpi second edition: “Climbing the mountains” instead, there will be events dedicated to the female presence in mountaineering expeditions and to possible opportunities for implementation linked to work and sustainability contexts.

Enrico Camanni will present his book The sacred mountain, a reflection on the intention launched in 2022 to leave the summit of Monveso di Forzo uncontaminated, between Val Soana and Val di Cogne, committing to no longer trample on the summit, as a symbolic challenge to the growing invasion of speculative ski lift projects in a changing and uncertain climate context.

Non-secondary part of the festival will be the shows (we highlight “Il Gigante”, from the book by Silvia Bonino inspired by the legend of Monviso, with the Cantoregi Association) and the musical events “The mountain in music”.
