MESTRE – Misadventure for one Twenty-year-old Finnish tourist hit while crossing the road by an SUV in reverse who, despite the impact and the woman on the ground, did not stop and continued his run which, however, was interrupted shortly after with the arrest by a patrol of carabinieri who were nearby, engaged in territorial control activities. The episode occurred in Via Piave, near the Partenopea pastry shop, yesterday afternoon.

THE DYNAMICS

The tourist, a twenty-year-old of Finnish nationality, was crossing the road to reach the bus stop, probably to reach Venice, when she was hit by the large-engined car, parked in front of the restaurant, which started in reverse at full throttle. ‘He hit the target without stopping. «The driver continued at high speed in the direction of the station – says Giampaolo Conte -, luckily there were three carabinieri patrols in the area, one chased him and stopped him a few meters further on, at the height of the pharmacy”. The young woman, taken to the emergency room as a non-urgent emergency, suffered a slight trauma to her head and suffered some grazes on her arm. «Many people saw the accident – explains Rino D’Introna – but only me and another lady, Mary, came forward with the police to leave our data. We also provided photos of the SUV to the officers to help them with identification.” «When the officers asked who among those present had witnessed the scene, they all disappeared – observes Mary Adamo -. We gave first aid to the girl, making her sit down and giving her water. She only spoke English and was there alone.” The driver of the SUV, a 40-year-old who did not appear to be impaired, was stopped by the officers who detained him for a long time to draw up the report.
