agreement approved for integrated safety of railway stations – VareseInLuce.it

Promote integrated safety in railway stations, stops and rest areas of collective and individual local public transport and to combat the abusive practice of taxi activity. This is provided for by the content of an agreement between bodies and institutions which is the subject of a resolution approved by the Regional Council, on the proposal of the Councilor for Security and Civil Protection, Romano La Russa, in agreement with the Councilor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Franco Lucente.

In addition to the Lombardy Region, the parties involved in the draft agreement are the Prefecture of Varese, Trenord, the Italian Railway Network (Rfi), Ferrovie Nord SPA, the Local Public Transport Agency of the Como, Lecco and Varese basin and the Lead Municipalities of Varese, Busto Arsizio and Gallarate. Control activities will begin in July and will continue until December.

“Last week – said councilor La Russa – during the meeting of the Provincial Committee for order and safety, convened in Saronno by the prefect Salvatore Pasquariello to also discuss safety in railway stations, we announced the imminence of this a measure which has achieved excellent results in the last two years. We are therefore proposing it again with a contribution of 60,000 euros, with the aim of strengthening safety in the station areas and allowing us to prevent and combat violent and uncivilized behaviour. Frequent episodes that occur especially in the evening hours, on the local train routes managed by the RFI company and in the areas surrounding the stations. Thanks to the protocol – he concluded – there will also be greater checks at stops and in the parking areas of local public transport and ad hoc services will be carried out to combat the phenomenon of illegal taxis”.

“Our objective – explained councilor Lucente – is to guarantee travelers maximum safety conditions on trains, on local public transport and in general at stations and stops. A notable commitment on the part of the Lombardy Region, which is already doing a lot in this regard: in recent months, for example, we have renewed the agreement with the police forces and the Armed Forces to allow them to travel for free on trains. A service to protect citizens and traveling staff. A notable effort which also sees us focused on combating illegal phenomena, in particular that of taxis, which significantly damages all operators who work in full compliance with the rules. I want to underline the daily commitment of the police forces, the local police and all the actors in the fight against a totally illegal plague”.
