(Adnkronos) – Charles Leclerc’s Ferrari closed the perfect weekend in Monte Carlo by winning the Monaco GP, his home race, for the first time in his career. The Monegasque driver of the red team, who started from pole, after an initial start stopped by red flags due to the scary accident between the two Haas cars and Sergio Perez’s Red Bull, restarted and dominated the race from the first to the last lap. A perhaps boring but certainly joyful race for the Ferrari drivers. Second place for Oscar Piastri’s McLaren and third for the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz. Max Verstappen’s Red Bull was only sixth. The curse that wanted Leclerc not to win in his home GP was broken, with the uncontainable joy of the Monegasque champion and the entire team at the finish line and Charles’ tears after passing the checkered flag. For Leclerc it is victory number 6 of his career in the World Championship, the first in the Principality. Ferrari’s last success in Monte Carlo dates back to 2017, with Sebastian Vettel. Sainz was also on the podium, third, although the Spaniard’s race could have been compromised after a puncture on the first lap, but the accident caused by Magnussen and which involved both Perez’s Red Bull and Hulkenberg’s other Haas pushed the organizers to restart the race, also because before the tunnel there had also been a contact between the Alpines, between Ocon and Gasly, with the former who will start in Canada in two weeks, with positions to be served on the grid. At the foot of the podium was the other McLaren of Lando Norris, followed by the Mercedes of George Russell and Verstappen. Seventh place for the other Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton. Completing the top ten were Tsunoda with RB, Albon with Williams and Gasly with Alpine. In the constructors’ standings, Ferrari rises to 252 points, second at -24 behind Red Bull, while in the drivers’ standings Leclerc moves to -31 behind Verstappen, still leading the world championship. “I have no words, it’s a difficult race and the fact that I started on pole twice without winning makes this victory even more beautiful and means a lot to me. I dedicate it to my father who did everything for me to be here”, said Leclerc after the success in the Monaco GP. —[email protected] (Web Info)
