The Medici Villa of Poggio a Caiano

Almost 236 million euros in favor of Italian cultural heritage. This is the news that arrived today from the Ministry of Culture after the publication of a decree signed by Minister Gennaro Sangiuliano. The funds concern the three-year period 2024-2026 and concern the sectors of archaeological heritage, to which approximately 15 million are reserved, fine arts and landscape, which receive 27.2 million euros, and museums, which receive almost 12, 5 million. To these, we add the archives with 3.7 million and the libraries with 5.4 million euros.

The entire national territory will be affected by the interventions, with Tuscany receiving 25 million euros and taking third place (together with Piedmont) in the ranking of the regions most financed by the Mic. The projects that will receive the funds are 138, divided as follows: 32 will be those dedicated to museums for a total of 8.1 million euros, 37 interventions for the fine arts and landscape area for a total of 9.2 million and 46 projects for archaeological assets for 5.3 million euros. Finally, libraries and archives will have 12 projects for 1.7 million and 11 interventions for 751 thousand euros respectively.

In detail, as far as archeology is concerned, 400 thousand euros will go to Theater and Roman Baths of Vallebuona di Volterra for the completion of safety and restoration interventions, 100 thousand euros will go to Pisa’s ancient shipyard for the reorganization and inventorying of deposits of archaeological material in the areas of competence and 300 thousand euros per Farmhouse of Poggio Murelle in Manciano for consolidation and restoration interventions on the walls of the farmhouse and also for fact-finding investigations on the ancient walls. Among the interventions that will be financed there are also those at Roman villa of Settefinestre of Orbetello which will receive 170 thousand euros for extraordinary maintenance with safety and restoration activities of the structures and for the design of a new visit route and creation of the routes and reference panels. Finally, too San Casciano dei Bagni he will have a loan of 200 thousand euros for his Podere Montesanto which will thus see restoration and safety works carried out on the Roman cisterns to support the excavation interventions under concession to the Municipality with recovery of the degraded landscape areas as part of the new project for the use of the area.

On the fine arts and landscape side, the financed projects include former church of San Lorenzo in Pistoia which will receive over 2.3 million euros for safety, consolidation, restoration and refunctionalization. TO Pisa 825 thousand euros will go to ordinary and extraordinary maintenance of the offices of the Superintendencywhile 240 thousand euros will go to Walls of Caprignola di Aulla, in the province of Massa and Carrara. The funds will be used for the valorisation, recovery and tourist-cultural development of the fortified system of Medici walls of Caprigliola. And again, 600 thousand euros for the removal and restoration of the frescoes of the rooms of the main floor and loggia of Palazzo Guinigi in Lucca and 450 thousand euros for the restoration of the facade and the roofing of the church of Santa Maia in Olmi and of the bell tower in Borgo San Lorenzo.

Finally, the archeology chapter sees 1.5 million euros for ordinary and extraordinary maintenance works and safety measures for all buildings, archaeological areas and systems, also for the purposes of enhancing public use of the museums belonging to the regional management museums in Tuscany, which will also receive 800 thousand euros for urgent interventions to adapt workplaces to eliminate or reduce risks.

At the Medici villa of Poggio a Caiano 450 thousand euros will then go towards consolidation, restoration and restoration of the loggia and the perimeter terrace above the villa. And again, 419 thousand euros will go to National Museum of San Matteo in Pisa and 303 thousand per Medici garden of Castello in Florence for the extraordinary maintenance of the buildings and the safety and restoration of the unsafe plaster, the primary and secondary wooden structures of the lemon groves in the Medici garden, and the complete overhaul of the roofs. Finally, 500 thousand euros will go to Portoferraio Mills Buildingon the Island of Elba, for restoration works, functional and plant requalification and valorisation.
