CIVITAVECCHIA. The employees of the Port System Authority of Civitavecchia and with them the trade unions won, and one might say by a large margin. After a back-and-forth that lasted weeks, which had led the organization’s staff to the now famous strike of five consecutive days between 18 and 22 April, the organization’s Management Committee gave the green light to the second contract level. A contract that largely follows the one already approved in December 2022 and which was then, incredibly, canceled by President Musolino and the Management Committee itself, who had given in to pressure from the president of the board of auditors, Ermanno Piteo.

The final green light came after the Ministry and Assoporti had clearly specified that the acquired rights of the staff hired before 2016 had to be safeguarded, in relation to some allowances provided for in the supplementary contract which had practically become fixed elements of the remuneration. The issue had obviously become of national interest, and for this reason the workers of Civitavecchia had received solidarity from colleagues throughout Italy, because, if clarifications from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport and Assoporti had not arrived, in any authority port authority, the rights acquired by the employees coming from the former autonomous consortia and the first port authorities could have been questioned.

What is certain is that the Adsp of the Central-Northern Tyrrhenian Sea does not come out of this whole affair absolutely well. The one who did not come out well, in particular, was the president of the board of auditors (apparently also supported by the General Secretary), who as soon as he assumed office had questioned what his predecessor had endorsed, leading, over the months, to an arm of iron which then resulted in the cancellation of the second level contract.

A provision which later proved to be absolutely wrong and completely useless, but which in the meantime has generated chaos and lacerating conflicts within an institution which has been unable to live in peace for some time now.
