The Region confirms and relaunches its commitment to sport as an area of ​​protection of health, psycho-physical well-being, sociality and territorial attractiveness through the new Three-year plan for sport 2024-2026approved today in Legislative Assembly upon proposal of Regional Council.

Allocating resources for 21 million euros.

Funds to finance projects to promote physical activity and events in the area proposed by Local authorities, sports associations and federations, schools. An important lever, after the 526 initiatives financed in the previous three-year period with 6.4 million euros.

In Emilia-Romagna almost 40% of the population carries out a physical or sporting activity continuously or occasionally (from 1 to 2-3 times a week). A growing figure, which places the region among the most active on the national scene. However, a significant share of sedentary people remains: around 1 million, equal to a quarter of the total population of Emilia-Romagna.

The objectives of the plan

Among the objectives of the act: to spread the culture and values ​​of sport to promote social inclusion and integrationwith particular attention to disability; strengthen access to sports practice women, reducing the gap that still exists compared to the male gender; qualify the teaching ofmotor education in school, starting from childhood; reduce the territorial disparities between large and small centers and different regional areas in terms of access to sports practice.

The Plan also confirms the Region’s commitment to sport as a driving force for economic and tourism development, guaranteeing support for big events. An investment which, as confirmed by recent research on 80 events held in Emilia-Romagna during 2022, is capable of generating a induced which can be calculated in 18 euros for every euro allocated.

Among the objectives between now and 2026 is also that of qualifying thesports facilities – almost 170 efficiency and redevelopment projects financed to date with around 50 million euros for a total investment of over 120 million euros – with particular attention to the restoration of the Flooded municipalities.

The plan is the result of a listening and discussion campaign conducted through meetings over 800 operators in the sector. A path that involved the territories and their area representatives, the Regional Sports Conference, the Capital Municipalities, the CONI, the International Paralympic Committee, the FIGC Regional Committee and the sports promotion bodies.
